Top 5 Adventures For Summer in Scottsdale

People swarm to Scottsdale in high season, February through April, but there are amazing things to do here that you can only do in the SUMMER! If you can brave the high temps, which won’t a big deal with these fun adventures, you’ll get to experience things only the locals get to do. Not to mention, vacation home rates drop by more than HALF!

1. Paqua Park at Scorpion Bay Marina on Lake Pleasant

Cooling off can’t be any easier than wiping out on the inflatable obstacle course and falling into Lake Pleasant. The kids love it. I loved it, despite eating sh*t many times. Once your 45 minutes is up, head to Scorpion Bay Grill to laugh about who wiped out best and nurse that bruised ego with a cold beer.

  • Location: Lake Pleasant, AZ

  • Distance from Old Town Scottsdale: 1 Hour drive

  • Cost: $25-$30

2. Wild horse sighting

Grab your tour guide and get out on the Salt River in search for the Salt River Wild Horses! No need to bring any equipment, your tour guide has you covered. This tour lasts a few hours and is a calm float down the river where you’ll see more than just horses! On our trip we saw a bald eagle nesting in a tree!

  • Location: Salt River

  • Distance from Old Town Scottsdale: 38 minute drive

  • Cost: $115

3. Salt River Tubing

Want to get in the Salt River? Go grab a tube at Salt River Tubing + Recreation and spend the day floating down the river taking in the beautiful desert sites. This is like a party in the river in some cases depending on the day and who you’re with. We love to get a tube for our cooler and then tie it to one of us so it doesn’t float away. Bring water, sunblock and a hat!

  • Location: Salt River, AZ

  • Distance from Old Town Scottsdale: 34 minute drive

  • Cost: $21/tube and includes parking, shuttle

  • DO NOT: bring glass containers, anything valuable that will get wet or float away

4. Tempe Town Lake

Grab a paddleboard and hang out on Tempe Town Lake! Afterward, head to Mill for some shopping and a bite to eat.

  • Location: Tempe, AZ

  • Distance from Old Town Scottsdale: 14 minute drive

  • Rent a board: $21-$35 depending on length of time
